Here for a print of this painting

Sea Fever by John Masefield

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

Walking the Dog

It's 'National Walk The Dog Day' - or, as we like to more accurately call it: 'National Walk The Hoomun Day'

My new newsletter!

Something else that's been overlooked in the (computer meltdown) mayhem was that my newly taken over newsletter went out yesterday. I can't find it anywhere online, so that's something that needs sorting - it needs to be on my smartened up website somewhere. That's here: www.SusanAlison.com

This is the first bit of the newsletter: see pic below - these corgis are celebrating the new management, as are all right thinking dogs.

There's been a change in management here at newsletter HQ - I, your humble PupperJack, have taken over. Susan has been too busy writing, painting and fretting about delayed parcel shipments (not to mention computer meltdowns) to keep the newsletter to the monthly schedule we all dream of. Tut tut.

It is a new dawn for this newsletter, swiftly followed by treats and ambles.

Jeff-Dog and his 100% combed cotton towel...

Jeff-Dog liked going out in the rain - and he liked wearing his blue 100% combed cotton towel when he came back in... Any other colour would get chucked off and buried in his basket.

There was an old Corgi...
who lived in a shoe.
She had a lot of puppies
- woohoo!
She taught them all to play
and revel in the light.
So they laughed all day
and slept all night.

Pantster or Planner Extraordinaire??? A thought for NaNoWriMo

No way is the wrong way

For some pups it’s an enormous thrill
to set out on this wild ride
with no inkling how they’re gonna fill
even just one side…

…of paper, let alone a whole ream.
But somehow they take all the bits and cook
them up into a tumbling stream
of words that make up a whole book!

Others plan with mathematical precision,
with calculators and spreadsheets
and never need any revision
and reckon their method beats
any other.

Cos they’d ruther

swear by their own way,
than say

that this way, nor that way either

is the right way
nor that way neither.
Pantster or planner?

Border Collie handy with a sewing needle (unlike me - give me needle and thread and I'm in knots in no time)

The lovely Otto being a very, very good dog. Like he is.

Crikey - I can't believe how badly I have neglected my blog. Poor blog!

There are so many things that need updating and I can't think where to begin, so I'll post a pic of the lovely Otto for now....

I am SUCH a good dog!!! (He is!!! No. Really!)

No dog could equal her passion for ballroom - Border Collie greeting cards

'No dog could equal her passion for ballroom'.

She even gave up chasing cars so that she could live in the drama of the ballroom. (as long as she had the partner she wanted, that was)

Some of my new cards - from a watercolor painting titled: They were off on their holidays (and woofing from the back: "Are we nearly there yet, Dad???")

This could also be used as a moving home card.

Jeff-Dog's stare can bore a hole through anything...

Jeff-Dog is staring at me from the doorway. I haven't looked. I just know he is. He wants something, and his stare is almost physical. I'm going to get my camera ready and suddenly whip around and take a pic before he can move. Getting ready now... click!!! Heh - here he is:

Herewith 'Out from Under the Polar Bear - a Romantic Comedy' - (Goodness me - where does the time go? Sorry, blog, for neglecting you...)

Stephanie Lawry has an unsuitable fiance, claustrophobia, and a disquieting rash...

Jack Redmond tries hard to be a good father to his children despite his ex-wife's attitude problem, and his mistakenly-gained drunken-perv reputation.

Add in Steph's bolshie parents, Jack's too-bright children, an old lover, a couple of rescued dogs, and a manky polar bear, and it's no wonder the games people play get out of hand.

Will Steph learn the rules of the relationship game in time to win Jack, or are the stakes too high?

Katie Fforde (best-selling rom com author and President of the Romantic Novelists' Association) said of 'All His Own Hair': 'Susan Alison handles difficult issues with quirky humour and uplifting results.'

Jill Mansell (best-selling rom com author) said of 'White Lies and Custard Creams': "Susan Alison has written a lovely, quirky romp packed with off-the-wall characters - original, intriguing and great fun!"

(To give you some idea of length - 'White Lies and Custard Creams' is 83,700 words long and 'All His Own Hair' is 87,300 words long. Out from Under the Polar Bear is 95,000 words long.)

Susan Alison is the Katie Fforde Bursary Award winner for 2011. She has won competition awards for short fiction and sold numerous stories to commercial publications. Her fiction concentrates on the relationships humans forge with each other (and quite often with their dogs). She is a freelance artist.
