No dog could equal her passion for ballroom - Border Collie greeting cards

'No dog could equal her passion for ballroom'.

She even gave up chasing cars so that she could live in the drama of the ballroom. (as long as she had the partner she wanted, that was)

Herewith 'Out from Under the Polar Bear - a Romantic Comedy' - (Goodness me - where does the time go? Sorry, blog, for neglecting you...)

Stephanie Lawry has an unsuitable fiance, claustrophobia, and a disquieting rash...

Jack Redmond tries hard to be a good father to his children despite his ex-wife's attitude problem, and his mistakenly-gained drunken-perv reputation.

Add in Steph's bolshie parents, Jack's too-bright children, an old lover, a couple of rescued dogs, and a manky polar bear, and it's no wonder the games people play get out of hand.

Will Steph learn the rules of the relationship game in time to win Jack, or are the stakes too high?

Katie Fforde (best-selling rom com author and President of the Romantic Novelists' Association) said of 'All His Own Hair': 'Susan Alison handles difficult issues with quirky humour and uplifting results.'

Jill Mansell (best-selling rom com author) said of 'White Lies and Custard Creams': "Susan Alison has written a lovely, quirky romp packed with off-the-wall characters - original, intriguing and great fun!"

(To give you some idea of length - 'White Lies and Custard Creams' is 83,700 words long and 'All His Own Hair' is 87,300 words long. Out from Under the Polar Bear is 95,000 words long.)

Susan Alison is the Katie Fforde Bursary Award winner for 2011. She has won competition awards for short fiction and sold numerous stories to commercial publications. Her fiction concentrates on the relationships humans forge with each other (and quite often with their dogs). She is a freelance artist.

'The Corgi Games' (book) puts in an appearance...

Of course, the Queen's Jubilee AND the London Olympics in the same year begs for combination - hence - The Corgi Games - in which Welsh Corgi dogs engage in various forms of sport (including sack racing) in their usual stylish and winning way. In rhyme. Natch.

The Corgi Games is on Amazon for Kindle, but not yet in paperback - I've not used Amazon's CreateSpace before for paperbacks so that's a wait and see thing, really. Of course, the pics on your Kindle (unless you have a fancy one) will be in black and white, but I've made the paperback full colour so I'm waiting pretty impatiently to see that one... Anyway, here it is - it's received its first review so I'm chuffed. (Why do I always feel so shy about announcing new books etc??). The formatter I used was brilliant but of course so much depends on the size the reader makes their font...

I hadn't really taken on board how little of the book would be seen in the sample so I'm putting another sample on here - I'll put the Sledding verse and pic:

Sledding

He loved going so fast
that everything went by in a blur.
It was such a blast
to have the wind race through his fur.

Speeding along was a thrill,
and always to win
with never a spill
produced such a big grin!

(The only trouble came when he forgot his mouth guard
and he’d get to the finish line with his tongue frozen hard
to his shoulder, which was always a pain,
and absolute agony til it thawed out again.)

Jeff-Dog looking jaundiced for good reason...

This is Jeff-Dog looking all suspicious. He's looking like that - all jaundiced - because he knows what I'm like with a camera....

And - what do you know??? Here he is again looking like he's only got three legs.... (He was right to be suspicious.)

The Lazy Days of Summer - Border Collies on a picnic

Of course, I was going to call it 'Dog Days' but then I realised that no dog is his right mind would be prancing about to the fiddle music in that kind of heat, so I didn't.

Border Collie dog cartoon art - sorta, vaguely, kinda, after Picasso...

One of things that is so neat about ACEOs (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) is that their only restriction is size. They must always be 2.5" x 3.5" - apart from that small thing, there ARE no restrictions! They can be made from any material - glass, paper, canvas, polymer clay, pasta, dried mud, plasticine, clay, marshmallow - you name it, you can make an ACEO from it. (Although the marshmallow one might not last too long in this house...).

This is not restricted to materials - they can be created using any style and any technique - watercolors, oils, acrylics, crayons, pencil and so on and so forth.

I've just decided to have a go at cartooning - and I like it! But to start with, I'm doing them ACEO size so they don't seem like such a huge (and intimidating) venture. Below are a couple of the results of this new direction.

The first one: "But, but... I didn't do it!" is very sorta, vaguely, kinda, after Picasso...

And the second one: "She wants a drink of water" is a scenario which is scarily familiar...
