Here for a print of this painting

Sea Fever by John Masefield

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

Walking the Dog

It's 'National Walk The Dog Day' - or, as we like to more accurately call it: 'National Walk The Hoomun Day'

My new newsletter!

Something else that's been overlooked in the (computer meltdown) mayhem was that my newly taken over newsletter went out yesterday. I can't find it anywhere online, so that's something that needs sorting - it needs to be on my smartened up website somewhere. That's here: www.SusanAlison.com

This is the first bit of the newsletter: see pic below - these corgis are celebrating the new management, as are all right thinking dogs.

There's been a change in management here at newsletter HQ - I, your humble PupperJack, have taken over. Susan has been too busy writing, painting and fretting about delayed parcel shipments (not to mention computer meltdowns) to keep the newsletter to the monthly schedule we all dream of. Tut tut.

It is a new dawn for this newsletter, swiftly followed by treats and ambles.

Corgis playing lawn bowls - like they do...

There’s nothing quite like a serene
afternoon of bowls on the green.
Corgis slap on sunscreen,
and in their caps so white and clean,
they congregate to glean
harmony of soul in between
rolling bowls in that familiar routine.

This is no place for shows of spleen…
…except for when some misguided pup runs off with the *kitty!

*Imagine my delight on discovering that the smaller ball is known as a ‘kitty’!

Everydog reckons they’re gonna write a book one day…

…they come up to you at parties and say:
“When I’ve got nothing better to do,
when I’ve got time to play –
I’m gonna write a book – just like you.”

“Everyone has a book in them,” gleefully they shout.

You must grit your teeth, smile, and NOT say:
“I wonder how it got there – from within
– or from without?”

You have to keep your face straight
when they go on: “But I have important stuff to do,
so listen well as my brilliant tale I dictate;
then you gussy it up a bit, and I’ll give half the profits to you.”

“That’s more than generous!” they cry
as you try really hard not to curse.
Just say a polite, smiley goodbye
as you scuttle away in rapid reverse.

Maybe it’s true that everyone has a book in them,
but maybe it’s not a book for public display.

Even if it’s true that everyone has a book in them –
maybe that’s where it should stay...

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky...

This is a requested pic for someone no longer with us. (He didn't ask for it - someone alive asked for it. jus sayin) I've pasted in the accompanying poem. I love this poem but it does make me well up a bit.
The poem is called Sea Fever and is by John Masefield; the pic is by me and is called '...the lonely sea and the sky...'

Dog loves half-price rom com sooooo much, he sticks its cover to the side of his vintage car...

Oh, dear - more Photoshop Procrastination - this time, the book cover is so small in the overall picture it doesn't really show up and do its job - even so, I like the idea of my book cover being on the side of a vintage car. My ambition used to be to see my book on a big poster on a railway station, but I'm veering towards the vintage car thing now...

Stephanie Lawry has an unsuitable fiance, claustrophobia, and a disquieting rash...

Jack Redmond tries hard to be a good father to his children despite his ex-wife's attitude problem, and his mistakenly-gained drunken-perv reputation.

Add in Steph's bolshie parents, Jack's too-bright children, an old lover, a couple of rescued dogs, and a manky polar bear, and it's no wonder the games people play get out of hand.

Will Steph learn the rules of the relationship game in time to win Jack, or are the stakes
too high?
