Happy Birthday, Beryl!!!

Well - we had to use Beryl as our excuse to post this pic, '...the lonely sea and the sky...' (and declaim the following poem - one of our favorites)

Monty, sitting on haunches, one paw on chest, the other out to the sky, in a rising woof of excitement, recites:

"Sea-Fever"

I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

By John Masefield (1878-1967).
(English Poet Laureate, 1930-1967.)

Happy Birthday, Beryl!!!

Happy Birthday, Judy!!! Hope you get loads of bling...

...and not just one earring. (Why does she only have one earring anyway - one day I'll find out.)

"What am I bid for this exquisite, barely-chewed marrow bone?"

(He'd always wanted to be an auctioner and used to dream of standing up there and shouting:

"Boing, boing, Bone!", but now he'd achieved his ambition, he actually only ever shouted the traditional words.)

(My dogs reckon that's a real shame...)

Dog (whippet) with pearl earring ; Cleocatra ; Corgi always had nose in a book ; BCs by the light of the moon

Dog with a pearl earring

(We salute Vermeer - we also apologise to him, but if he will insist on painting such delicious pictures, he must expect to be dogged by us paw painters.)

Cleocatra

(awaits her Antomcat)

He always had his nose in a book

(and consequently kept missing the bus and tripping over things)

By the light of the moon

Cats in love ; Whippet thinking ; Corgi unwell ; Border Collie gift ; Cats gossiping over the Aga

They were meant for each other

I'm thinking of you

(and I've gone out to the quiet of the woods to do it so that I can concentrate on you and you'll feel my thoughts coming your way)

Get well soon!

(soooooo many bugs going around at the moment...)

Just for you

(they're shop-bought, too, not nicked from next door...)

Kitchen cats

(The kitchen is such a great place to drink tea and chat. Some cats hang out there all the time.)

Whippet spring fairy ; Corgi La Pawfumerie ; and Border Collie Tribute to absent friends

Spring fairy

(she's thinking of waking up)

(I wish she'd hurry up and get on with it... Had enough snow and stuff.)

La Pawfumerie

(anydog who is anydog needs to get their rolling-in-scent from a pawfumerie of repute)

Tribute to absent friends

(we reckon they see the same moon that we do)

Ballroom cats ; A whippet's choice of decorations ; Corgial greetings ; A break from partying ; and Dawn of a New Day

Ballroom cats

(Ballroom dancing covered two things from their New Year resolution list - exercise and more togetherness)

He'd been in charge of decorations this year

(you can possibly see his influence in the choice of bauble - placed just right to maintain a delicate aesthetic balance - with his own paw, no less)

Corgial greetings to everyone!

TIME OUT FROM PARTYING

(his festive season was pretty exhausting)

Dawn of a new day

- with all its infinite possibilities...
